TIME of the SEASON Summer 2019 Edition: BONUS TRACKS — Part DOS

OK……

I did this last season although that was due to another big show left to review that time and well…… yeah, there was some shows I did check out but didn’t have much to say on some shows, especially one that aired the past weekend.

Actually, they were some on Monday that I haven’t given full first impressions (mostly due to having family where I’m at) but I have watched said shows and I’m ready to give my thoughts on them.

Once again, I got 4 shows lined up for this.

LET’S GET TO OUR BRIEF MENTIONS….. AGAIN!

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest screenshot

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest // WHITE FOX, asread // FUNIMATION

Plot Summary: Hajime Nagumo and his high school class are suddenly summoned to a fantastical land as heroes. But while most of his classmates have powerful stats and abilities, Hajime does not. Underappreciated and unprepared, he tumbles into the depths of a monster-infested dungeon where voracity and sacrifice are his only options. To thrive in this savage world, he’ll have no choice but to welcome the abyss.

First Thoughts: Oh, boy, another dark fantasy isekai and I meant that in every way it being dark from me trying to make out what the hell is going on and we have this one poor naive bastard, who is pretty much a loser from the first look of him and you see his stats are sorry as fuck and once some shit goes down, loses an arm and but yet gains some power and strength by eating monster meat. I know people going around saying “the manga’s better!!” and once again, I don’t give a shit. I’d said that Wise Man’s Grandchild was the same’ ol shit but at least it can be entertaining and fun. This is dull, bland and another shot of edge that thinks its mature but a version of your kid wearing adult clothes…..and not in a flattering way.

SKIP IT.

If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord screenshot

Plot Summary: Dale is a well-known and highly skilled adventurer despite being so young. One day, he’s on a quest and goes deep into the woods and finds a little devil girl named Latina, who is just skin and bones. Latina is branded with the mark of a sinner, but Dale decides he can’t just leave Latina there and decides to become her guardian. Thinking to himself, “Latina is too cute, I don’t want to work,” he ends up doting over her before he even realizes it.

First Thoughts: OK, I know I immediately wrote this off since I heard about how it might ended up in the light novels like that one manga Usagi Drop….I really hope it doesn’t go that way because I was very….. OK with this first episode. Yeah, the little girl is adorable yet Dale seems…… very, very biase. Then again, I’d take him over the last isekai protagonist I talked about. This seems like a very cute story and I have no beef with that. Maybe not the most imaginative thing but comforting nevertheless…… I do hope it doesn’t get farther than her childhood years.

MEDIUM PRIORITY WATCH

Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note screenshotLord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note // TROYCA // Aniplex of America

Plot Summary: Waver Velvet – The boy who fought side by side with the King of Conquerors – Iskandar – during the Fourth Holy Grail War in Fate/Zero. Time has passed, and the mature Waver has now adopted the name of Lord El-Melloi. As Lord El-Melloi II, he challenges numerous magical and mystical cases in the Clock Tower, the mecca of all mages…

First Thoughts: OK, I remember Fate/Zero a lot…. I remember that being the— well, the third Fate-related thing I watched during my blossoming years as an anime reviewer and the years went and my relationship with Fate is basically….. UH……UM. Yeah. When I said I watched Fate/Zero, I watched it dubbed on Neon Alley and mainly because this is something with a lot of dialogue to keep yourself focused on and as for this show…… yeah, it’s a Fate show (some intriguing dialogue here and there, gorgeous art style and animation, good score, etc.) and yet on a character that I didn’t care for that much.

Yes, Waver Velvet is like an afterthought for me although a slightly more competent protagonist than that other guy in the main series. To me, he’s basically the equivalent of Halsey aka someone that has their fans and acclaim but I’m just find them not that compelling or interesting on their own. Actually, that’s too mean — to Velvet.

I’LL WAIT FOR A DUB OF THIS

Wasteful Days of High School Girls screenshot

Wasteful Days of High School Girls // Passione // HiDive/Sentai Filmworks

Plot Summary: Bored out of her skull, Tanaka decides to give her friends some rather quirky nicknames, but they aren’t going to take her unflattering descriptions lying down. Sakuchi (who got saddled with “Ota” due to her nerdy otaku tendencies) and Saginomiya (dubbed “Robo” thanks to her deadpan personality) decide to call Tanaka “Baka” — and honestly? This should give you a pretty good idea of the shenanigans these three get up to. They’re at the height of their youth and they’re utterly ridiculous, eagerly and hilariously wasting away their days as high school girls!

First Thoughts: I would’ve done a full first impression of this earlier but this didn’t show up on HiDive via VRV until yesterday and I checked on that page every single day for when that show might come. Anyway….. this should’ve been named These Goofy-ass People in this damn SCHOOL! The comedy is all around the place from the awkward and strange humor between the girls to the WTF moment with that one teacher who has to shout “I’M NOT INTERESTED IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS!!” OK, dude, we get it. You’re not a predator but stop shouting that shit! But, yeah, I see this in the vein of other shows like HinamatsuriNichijou and maybe Chio’s School Road. Some good comedy with a mix of weirdness in them. Maybe not as weird as the shows I mentioned but still……
