The Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past (i.e. Rey finding Luke Skywalker as a teacher to teach her the Jedi Way and making sure the Resistance survives as the First Order is heavy on eliminating them).
Ah, the next entry of the newly Star Wars Trilogy and this time directed by Rian Johnson, the director of Brick and Looper. Now, with how well The Force Awakens was received despite it playing it safe since with all the mentions of it being like A New Hope….the joke continues of it wondering if it’s like Empire Strikes Back.
Well….good news, it’s not a remake of that. In fact, I think this upped the ante in this film series as this went on to a new direction as this might possibly be my favorite entry in the Disney Star Wars movies. First things first…..FUCK!! THIS WAS TENSE AS HELL!!! Yeah, I knew some deaths of Resistance members was bound to happen but I was on edge watching what was going to happen next. I mean, shit can happen anytime and judging by what I saw, I was right. And as for the complaints I’m hearing about some of the humor is here…..look, I get comedy can be subjective to anyone but I honestly wasn’t bothered by most of it. Hell, that one moment in the beginning was actually funny to me and maybe there’s one humor scene that didn’t work that much for me but it was just a nitpick. Then again, after all the shit I saw from the tense moments, I need something to lower it…. not everything needs to be grimdark/edgelord shit.
Still got a lot of love for the cast to Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac as Rey, Finn and Poe respectively and some of the newer players into here, too. One character being Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran and I was definitely a fan of her performance here and they got have some character progression in their respective arcs, particularly of Rey and Poe. Hey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren definitely has some good progression in his arc as well.
Sidenote: The “In loving memory of our princess” was heartfelt as expected.
I’m MAK2.0 aka The Blue Hybrid and I don’t know why but I wanted more picking on Hux on there.
