Now we had a great line-up of new anime the past Spring but now with summer, there’s less to be anticipated for and you know what, that’s fine. Not every season needs to be packed with that but it’s nice to have some stuff to look forward to. Hell, I got 3 shows in the summer I’m looking forward to and speaking of that show……
Yes. The return of a grand anime I reviewed back 3 years ago…. A masterful anime with great storytelling and yet not so great animation…..but that didn’t stop it from being a masterpiece.
This is Berserk (2016).

Plot Summary: In the aftermath of the Eclipse, the Black Swordsman Guts is lucky once again to have escaped with his life, but this time his freedom comes with horrific consequences. Thanks to the God Hand’s brand on the back of his neck, Guts will be haunted by hungry demons for the rest of his life, dooming him to a brief and lonely existence as he burns himself out seeking vengeance against his former friend, Griffith. But after he saves a young boy and a loudmouthed pixie on a whim from rowdy bandits, Guts finds that his doomed journey may not be so lonely after all, though the road ahead of him will still be paved with the corpses of the weak, innocent, and unfortunate.
First Thoughts: The first good thing to know is that it is a continuation after the Golden Age arc so we are moving forward with the tragic story of Guts and seeing where it takes him and it does have a recall of what happened before this (oh, that WTF ending….). This character exploration of Guts as a character after the Golden Age does have good stakes going for it and now he has two companions with him although the pixie could be the easiest to get annoyed real fast. Yes, yes, yes, I know the CG makes the animation look clunky but then again, this isn’t as bad as Ajin‘s CG animation.
So basically, right off the bat, I got good feelings for this continuation of Berserk as this is truly the one of the few fantasy-set anime I actually like. This gets a straight up CONTINUE WEEKLY.
This is MAK2.0 aka the Blue Hybrid and *sees that scene again* AAAHHHH!!!! Oh, fuck you, Griffith!!
