12-year-old me: “Oh man, I made this story about this cool guy who’s an awesome cool fighter that can fight people and shoot them and stuff and can get all the girls he wants!! This sounds the most AMAZING THANG EVAR!!”
24—actually, 25-year old me: “I wrote a story about the inner-city battle between humans and hybrids centered on an agency that works to protect both.”
Oh, by the way –[SEASON 2, BITCHES!]……
No, seriously, I sometimes watch bad anime (or anything) to see what NOT to do when writing something and yelp……Our old friend A-1 PICTURES showed us how….this is The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water.

Plot Summary: Invertia was a meteor storm that caused an unprecedented disaster during the 20th century. Because of this disaster, numerous cities around the world were destroyed. However, within the meteor, an unknown element called mana was discovered. It allowed human technology to make rapid strides giving rise to a new species of super-powered humans, the Star Pulse Generation (Genestella). The Festas (Star Warrior Festivals) host battles between Genestella at a city of six academies called “Rikka,” also commonly known as “Asterisk.” Scholarship student Ayato Amagiri transferred into Seidōkan Academy in order to fulfill his own wish, swearing he too will fight in this city.
First thoughts: So….in the first 10 minutes, we got a boy walking in on a girl getting dressed, she reacts as expected, very pissed off and battles with him. He wins and there’s an accidental boob grab where he has to feel for confirmation. Did I forget to mention lingering ass shots of the girls? Seriously, this was hyped up during Sakura-con when Aniplex of America announce they got the rights for this? Because this is just another typical LN anime adaptation and like many of them, they tend to suck. Not only that, it’s one from A-1 Pictures, whom not that many people trust in their shows. They got some decent shows but the biggest ones tend to suck the most (and I’m gonna refrain from mentioning THAT show for this). The characters aren’t that interesting to follow, the so-called comedy was cliché drivel especially from the lead female Pink Hair Tsundere girl #4 or 7 and blond girl that looks like that girl from Infinite Stratos. Either way, I’m not holding my breath on this becoming any better. I knew what to expect coming from this and while it’s not that harmful, it’s mostly boring.
I’m not gonna drop it because I need to see how worse it can be but this is more of WATCH 3 then Drop for the rest of you. There is genuinely better stuff this season to get hyped for and fortunately, tomorrow might be that day.
Well, this is MAK2.0 aka The Blue Hybrid, reminding you aspiring young writers to NEVER WRITE SHIT LIKE THIS!
