HEY!! It’s that show that aired in the Spring season this year that I binge-watched all summer because I kept hearing good things about it. 2nd SEASON AHOY!!! Plus, I already decided not to watch the sequel to Selector infected Wixoss this season so this one is feeling in their slot.
This is Chaika: The Coffin Princess Avenging Battle.
Director: Soichi Masui
Series Composition: Touko Machida
Music: Seikou Nagaoka
Original creator: Ichiro Sakaki
Original Character Design: Namaniku ATK
Art Director: Kouji Okamoto
Animation Production: BONES

(Season 2 is unlicensed as of the time of this review, but we’re sure Sentai Filmworks is going to license it since they already have Season 1)
Plot Synopsis: A continuation of the show’s previous season – i.e., Toru Acura is a 20-year-old retired soldier meandering through life now that the war has ended. He encounters Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin, and follows her in hopes of finding meaning to his life again. The two travel with Toru’s adopted sister, Akari, the employed member of the group and thus Toru’s source of income.
Thoughts on it so far: Now that I think about it, I think I rather just binge-watched this than doing it on a weekly basis. The show isn’t bad by any means as this is a good show but hearing that it’s the best of the year….yeah, I’m not feeling you on that part. It just feels like another average anime series but this time, it’s a barrage of some typical anime aspects such as the moe girl protagonist, the medieval setting, the magic elements, the other two companions, and of course, there is a Chaika army as well…..it’s not anything that compelling but it’s serviceable to some people that loved the first series. It’s the same animation as before from Studio BONES and this is okay at best, it’s just out of all the current anime shows animated by BONES this year, this would be 3rd out of the 4 shows they made (and yes, Space Dandy is obviously first and guess what? Captain Earth is 2nd!! And no, I’m not trolling with you!!) that has some great animation.
In other words, I’m just going to MARATHON the show every other week or so. I think this is a show that’s better for binge-watching reasons.
Until then, this is MAK2.0 aka The Blue Hybrid, bringing all the Chaikas into…..well, they’re everywhere. I’m not gonna catch them all. You’re on your own with that.
