A mecha series? Check.
Sunrise animating this? Check.
It’s some plot that I may not pay enough attention to? Check.
Dumbest name for an anime…Wait, what’s the name of…..*checks the title of the review* THE FUCK IS A BUDDY COMPLEX?
Director: Yasuhiro Tanabe
Animation Studio: Sunrise
Streaming: Funimation.com, Hulu, Daisuki
Plot Summary: On the first day back after summer break, high-school student Aoba is attacked by a giant robot that appears out of the sky. As he’s pursued through the city, his classmate Hina appears in a robot of her own. She rescues him, and tells him cryptically that “Dio is waiting for you,” before she disappears. This begins Aoba’s new life as the pilot of the Free Treaty Alliance against the Great Zogiria Republic.
Thoughts on it so far: I don’t know and I don’t give a fuck. Goodbye.
OK, OK, OK, Honestly, I’m getting burned out of mecha series, especially since Sunrise happens to be the go-to studio for that type of anime. Last year’s Valvrave The Liberator was a complete and utter bore even if they got that one unnecessary moment in the first season and the other completely disturbing and terrifying moment in the second season, I give it that points but while that was generic and somewhat stupidly manageable for others, BC only has a generic feel in everything including plot (even if ¼ of it is slightly watchable with learning how to do coupling….and now I know why it’s called Buddy Complex and yet the title still sounds stupid.), characters (for example, Aoba is “the one” that can save the universe, world, city, grocery store….) and animation. No, it didn’t impress me because hey, plenty of mecha anime always look like that. It’s not exactly “OMG!! MEHZING GRAFFIX AND NIMITION!!!” every time.
And you know what? I just going to WAIT UNTIL DVD/BLU-RAY with an English dub because at least, I’ll be able to be focused more on it.
And until then, this is MAK2.0 aka The Blue Hybrid, bringing the coupling into your Buddy Complex.
And next time, you’re going to fall in love with this next one.
